  10. The population of this country in 1951 was considerably smaller than it is now. (50.4 million, as opposed to the present 67.4 million.) A country as small as ours cannot continue to accommodate more and more people, as the infrastructure is unable to expand at the same rate!

  20. I have mentioned recently that if Vat was taken off fuel, this would help right across the board. Why do we pay fuel duty and vat? Vat amounts to around 40p on each litre and to remove this, even temporarily, would help a struggling economy.

  48. Fuel duty (and vat on fuel) should have been left alone. That will represent another one or two percent more on inflation! Motor fuel is not a luxury!! All goods and services rely on fuel for deliveries and transport.
