  1. Given the choice, I would not have adopted the trade I was persuaded to do by my father. I was gullible and immature at 15. Some of the lads who were just a bit older were persuaded to take the king's shilling in 1914 and if they didn't hurry, they'd miss all of the action in France, as it would all be over too soon.
