  1. Our prisons are full of minor offenders. Train them up and let them do the job and as an incentive, reduce their sentences if they do a good job. I'm sure they would welcome the chance to be out in the fresh air!

  2. Thatcher preached that the 'metal bashing' was a thing of the past and the future lay in I.T. A lot of engineering companies went to the wall, branded as 'lame ducks' and refused a hand up to become competitive again. We now have to rely on such as the Japanese to provide the car manufacturing. Everyone now seems to be a desk jockey. . .there's a lot less kids willing to take on the apprenticeship. . .few as they are anyway. Most kids now are seeking a degree (in mostly useless subjects) in the meantime, we carry on without investing in the manufacturing companies.
