And the more they raise the minimum wage, the more the fast-food replaces actual workers with self-serve kiosks and automation. Which means fewer jobs available, more people on public assistance, and all of the rest of us paying higher taxes and higher prices to make up for it. And my brother won't use self-serve kiosks, since if he is having to do the job himself he should be getting a discount.

@marscaleb Maybe have them rotate through the Ferengi Rules of Acquisition.

NEW tech can often (but not always) be an improvement in our lives. MANDATED tech on the other hand, not so much.

That was where I figure the guy was in the wrong. If I were making replacement factor reinstall CDs, I would absolutely label them as such. Have a generic label format I use for everything regardless of manufacturer. Point out it is meant for a specific model/model series, and that no further rights are being ascribed than they'd already have as an owner of some particular hardware. While I'm at it, put in a subtle comment to remind them of how few rights they ARE getting from the manufacturers. And you're not "selling" a disk, you're charging a service/media cost fee. And I expect by adding something about how few rights the manufacturers are giving (with URLs to the EFF, etc) you could probably argue that the disks were a political statement. But pressing them with exact duplicates of the original labeling is misrepresentation. Still, a prison term seems excessive. You have state governors causing thousands of nursing home deaths by gross incompetence and they get to keep their elected positions.

my thought was spring-loaded visors (or whatever may be the "technical" term for those traffic light shades). If the snow builds up (or some bird tries to roost there) the visor tips down and drops off the snow. Low-tech solution. An advantage with LED bulbs is they can be made with an array of LEDs (I've seen them that way) so is some elements fail the rest if the light can still work, rather than the incandescent one failing completely. But not thinking about winter usage typifies the usual failure of government-think.

Because it's the sort of criteria the Government already uses for such things. In New York State the NYS DOT looked at the number of accidents at parkway grade crossings by seeing how many accidents occurred within 1-2 MILES of the intersection. Far enough away that any correlation would be irrelevant. But Agencies gotta Agent...

@nPcDrone That's what happened to Vermont. Growing up I lived in a couple different places there, and it still was a reasonable place to be. Then the liberal extremists moved there in droves, skewing the politics far from what they had been. After my parents were dead, and other family moved elsewhere, I've had no reason to even visit again, let alone move back. These days it's like being in a sparsely populated NYC.

... Man: And creatin' a nuisance (And they all came back, shook my hand, and we had a great time on the Bench)

What I don't understand is why ANY company would move TO NYC these days. For a while it was businesses leaving NYC that kept Westchester County's occupancy rate up.

@m4d_al3x Easy to say now. I'm not looking forward to finding out which friends and/or family will become infected. Or which ones may die of it.

@owlblocksdavid4955 Hey, I use Linux, I work in Linux. The problem is coming down to finding unlocked *HARDWARE*. Apple makes consumer-hostile decisions, and all the other manufacturers follow their bad lead. AND they make sure to make it difficult/near impossible to create competition. Personally I would rather see us fight this by removing the laws/regulations that make the monopolies and such possible, rather than by adding yet more laws. But sometimes that option just isn't possible.
1
@CerebrumMortum That had been the case, but it's becoming less and less the case.

@landonpowell6296 Richard Stallman has little to do with the Linux kernel, userspace, etc. His particular interests in the open source field lie elsewhere.

Hey, I recognized "Queen Connie" in your thumbnail ight away. Countless times I passed that weight-lifting gorilla along Route 7 (don't visit Vermont anymore after dad died, and after the NYC liberals ruined the state)

But what about the 'Tom Jones Act'? I mean, I'm sure it's not unusual... I expect the reason The Jones Act hasn't been repealed is less about lobbyists and special interests, rather that there isn't enough for a politician to gain by pushing the repeal. So many other things show faster returns in the polls and election fundraising.

You must not have heard of Nintendo's "tri-wing" screws then.

I did, and then looked at the video and thought "OK, someone who transitioned. Big deal." Then continued listening to what she was saying

@chriscompton3228 Who knows, maybe that was part of the intention. Damage your firearms so you can't use them anymore.

Well, he was specifically looking at a stack of shipping orders, and saying where those specific orders were being shipped to. Doesn't disprove his statement, as he wasn't implying those were international locations in relation to the USA.

@worldcomicsreview354 And now Japan is the one with the declining population, and jobs to be filled. And with that declining population tending to relocate to population centers, you could buy your own town/village for cheap.

But we don't want to be dependent on a proprietary application that runs on a proprietary OS. Autofill should only be done on LibreOffice (on whatever OS you want) because you will be able to audit how the function works.

We should never have promised all that Ukraine aid in the first place. The only reason we're so invested in Ukraine is because the Biden Family and their cronies have so much invested into Ukrainian companies and Ukrainian corruption. There was a chance early on to negotiate a settlement which would have saved widespread destruction and death, but that would have hindered the Biden's free flow of money. Putin is far from a saint, but Zelensky is far from sainthood as well. I'd agree that punishing an aggressor that invades their neighbouring country is laudable, but this has been ineffective in achieving that goal, and only serves to funnel money into a handful of American and Ukrainian pockets.

@prepperjonpnw6482 He still could have charged a handling/media fee to cover the cost of the disks and that should have been legal (it's even considered acceptable to charge for the media/processing of open source software disks). As long as that's what the charge was for. The problem was representing them as actual disks from the manufacturer (or even if that wasn't his intent, they appeared to be so).

@SofaSpy l have thought the best thing for New York State would be to kick NYC out.

That's just it. Feminism was all about men and women being *equal*. It was about standing side-by-side, working together for common goals, and appreciating that the differences between genders are no different than the differences between individuals; and as individuals we each have something we are best at. And definitely the feminist movement back then was about no longer being or acting like victims, but to be in full control of your own life. Another important thing to remember is that, even though it was called "feminist", the movement was about moving beyond the stereotypes for women AND men. These days we've regressed, in both feminism and racial relations. Ans it seems like it really started during Bill Clinton's administration.

@glennrishton5679 I think if properly labeled, with a statement that they were not being provided as manufacturer disks but rather as a service for owners of particular hardware, he could have had a better case. As I said on another comment, use it as an opportunity to point out the lack of consumer rights.

I would suspect a properly engineered dishwasher would use LESS water and energy than hand washing (how often when hand washing will you leave the water running). But government regulation and mandates tend to get in the way of innovation and smart engineering, because the companies have to spend all their time and money just to comply with the regulations.

Maybe we should just skip the Presidential election entirely and install Emperor Norton.
1
Well granted, it does take a bit of training to re-adjust one's voice after transitioning.

@AndGuitar It's an Apple product, it's already inoperable. Just like a Microsoft product.
