I don't know if this would constitute a "burn it down" attitude, but I definitely think the Democrats need to have an overwhelming and resounding defeat this year. Not so much because of any inherent "righteousness" of the Republicans, but because that's what it's going to take to restore sanity and control to the Democratic Party. I think if they are soundly trounced, the regular "rank-and-file" of he party, the local average American members, will demand a restructuring and evaluation of their party. They might even go so far as to reject nominating the most extremist office holders, even if it means risking the loss of seats they already hold, because it will have been those extremists who will have driven the voters away. Until such time as we can get enough 3rd-party candidates elected that NO single party can hold a majority, we have to rely on sane-minded Republican and Democratic parties to maintain balance.
