  2. Sure, and the homeowner shrugs it off as "it was only a $10 package". And that's how you encourage criminal activity (not surprised it's in Kookafornia). I'm not saying prison time for petty theft, but a couple days in the county lockup may discourage the starter criminals before they become career criminals. A small lesson in consequences.

Seriously, in that situation I'd be cancelling the order on the kiosk, then calling for the manager hiding in the back for someone to take my order, and if necessary to refund the $25 gift card (in case the machine already debited it). Even if I decided I would just use my card for the entire amount I'd request the refund on the gift card (in case it was debited already), and ask for a receipt in case they claimed it was still on the card. Make sure it costs McDonalds more in administration than what a real person would have cost.
