  1. The theory is to inconvenience ordinary people so much that people push for compromises just to shut the protesters up. But it only ends up encouraging them to do more of the same. Ask Neville Chamberlain how well "appeasement" worked out.

  2. I know. It looked more like something you'd typically see in China. Except this building is 50 years old and it took an earthquake to topple it. In Japan they build structures with the expectation the will have to withstand earthquakes. NYC would be piles of rubble in a similar situation.
