It might just be harder to get into those mountains (fewer roads and such to begin with), but that was the same way for Hurricane Irene, where there was massive, widespread destruction in the Catskills, but all the NYC news outlets could cover was Long Island residents complaining they didn't have power.

  8. But when I was looking at places to move to in the southern states, I was thinking places closer to Asheville NC would be safer from hurricanes. I think back to the damage we had from Sandy some 12 years back (lots of massive trees down on our property). You would have thought the Catskills would be isolated enough, but Irene in 2011 proved that wrong.
