A couple years ago when I needed a new TV, I was specifically looking for used TVs from tag/estate sales. Found a 46" unit at an estate sale for $65, and only had to replace the I/O board (found from a salvage non-profit for $20). Fixed it myself. My computers are all used, refurbished, or hand-me-downs I wiped and then installed LINUX on. At this stage the closest I'll get to a new computer will be building it from my own selected parts, and I already have cases I can use (that still have bags for optical drives, which so many of the crap-ass cases from WorstBuy and many others don't have anymore).

I suppose, if you can't stop your TV from automatically attaching to your dumbass neighbor's wide-open wifi, the next option would be to block their ad servers at the router, or connect to the internet through a Pi-Hole.

One solution that should theoretically still work is to never connect the TV to the internet. Attach a Roku instead, or build your own Kodi box. Of course, I wouldn't even guarantee that your current SmartAss TVs won't figure some way around that (such as attaching itself to your neighbor's wide-open guest network). Personally I don't need a monster sized TV, so some 36" computer monitor from Staples will probably work just fine.

Then you also have all those cable channels, already filled with ads, who refuse to let you stream their channel unless you're already paying for cable TV as well. HELLO???? You folks are ALREADY being paid by the advertisements, so you've already got your money. It's why I'm just watching Funimation and Netflix these days.
