  1. It's been the case for every Presidential campaign I've seen. At the beginning you could pick out a reasonable, thoughtful and patriotic candidate from both the Republican and Democrat groups of candidates, and they'll be among the FIRST to be eliminated. From then on it's a process of eliminating the least disgusting either party has to offer, until the worst possible candidate is the one that gets nominated.

  2. This is why we need a lot more third-party candidates getting elected to office at every level. You need to eliminate the possibility that ANY party can hold a majority. Then the only way they will get anything done is to move beyond party lines and actually cooperate and work together (well, to an extent at least). And to the people who say "oh, but they wouldn't be able to do anything then...", is that really a BAD thing?
