  2. Thanks for discussing Thomas Cromwell, I think he’s really interesting and had some great ideas. He designed the crown takeover of church properties to endow the crown with a steady, certain income for decades to come. Henry VIII, of course, blasted through the money instead, by giving or too-generously selling the properties to his buddies and his vanity-war in France. The French indulged him by letting him “take” a few towns, while he was acting as general from his litter, too fat and unhealthy to ride, just to get rid of him. They knew he had to get his teenage dreams of military glory out of his system before he could be somewhat reasonable to deal with.
