  1. not in 1963, but by 1965 it was. The FBI was the one who did, and over ruled the local police. You seem to think the Dallas police was state of the art in 1963, they were not. The FBI had all the latest equipment , the Dallas police couldn't even keep Oswald safe and you think they should have done the investigation? no way!

  2. FBI had jurisdiction over the Presidential Limo, not local, County or State Police. They couldn't keep it in storage, the Gov didn't even own this car, it was leased from Ford. They looked into building another car and it would take several years, and this car could be redone in less than half the time. We just had a President murdered and they wanted the new President in a armoured car, and this was a quickest way to do it. This car was used till 1978 ,Carters years, it just was not used anymore for the President

  3. no , read up on it, it was driven to the hospital and the plexiglass roof and fabric cover were put on it, then it was flown to the White House Garage, where the FBI took pictures and searched for evidence, late in Dec 1963, it was flown to Hess and Eisenhardt In Ohio, to be rebuilt. They were not doing a shrine, they needed a new Limo for the President fast and this was the fastest way to do it

  6.  @inkey2  they were not wanting a memorial car, a president had just been shot and killed, they needed a armoured limo quick, this could be done with this Lincoln quickly, it was done in 5 Months, would have taken a year and a half to build a completely new custom limo. Back in the late 60s , a African dictator ordered a new Lincoln Continental custom limo, Hess and Eisenhardt. By the time it was done a year and a half later, he was not in power anymore.

  10. that is your opinion, the Dallas Police were in no position to do this investigation, it needed to be done by the FBI and the secret service. They fixed the law 2 years later, in 1965, so it would still be done this way if anything like this happened again

  12. all presidents rode in convertibles till that day in 1963. This 61 Lincoln replaced a 1950 Lincoln limo convertible and the main one before that was the 39 Lincoln convertible called the Sunshine Special

  13. Ford owned the car from day one, its pretty much the same car with armour plating and a roof. Its a 61 and the 61 had different grill and lights but by 1963 the from grill was changed to how the 62-63 Lincolns were

  18.  @lired70  they did investigate the car, they also didn't own the car, it was leased to the Government cheaply by Ford, which is why they have the car, they also paid for the redo. Again you are forgetting this was 1963, and would take a year and half to build a new one, this was redo was done in 5 months, , everything else they had was old, this was the newest Limo in the garage and they needed a safe car quickly for the President to ride in, while another one was being built , I think it was a 1965 Lincoln Continental .

  20. Presidents had been riding in open cars since the beginning of cars. This was the last open car though . Kennedy was known for wanting the top down on just about any car he rode in ,if it was a Convertible

  21.  @wewin7140  body of the car is intact, the car evolved even while Kennedy was using it, they updated the grill from a 1961 Lincoln to a grill from a 62-63, they just put a roof on a covertible and armoured the car. It's still the 1961 Lincoln Continental. That original car was the last convertible bought for the president

Back in the later 60s, there was stretched Lincoln Continental limos for sale, because some African dictator ordered one and by the time it was ready, a year later, he had been overthrown, and the car was sitting at Hess and Eisenhardt. Where did you get the idea Ford built this car, They owned it and had it made, but other than the original car, the rest was done over time and Hess and Eisenshardt

Even Eisenhower rode in his parade I a brand new 53 Eldorado with the top down with Mamie. Kennedy preferred riding with the top down or off, I the case if this Lincoln. A year or so before thus happened, he was in Paris with deGaul, and they were riding in a Citroen DS convertible, it was raining and the top was up, and Kennedy insisted on the top being down ,even in the rain, if course the crowd loved it. It was his way of getting close to the people.

  30.  @mrb4886  I have read on it, there is timelines of what they did with the car in the Whitehouse garage. Again Ford spent 500k redoing this car with Hess and Eisenhardt in Ohio, then continued their low cost least with the government.

But again, 1963, you just didn't build a car like this in a week or 2, this redo of the car with Armour and bullit proof glass and tires took about 5 months, if they were building a car from scratch it was over a year. The old 56 Cadillac parade car and 50 Lincoln Presidential Limo were also convertibles, this car was 3 years old and the one to be redone, and I think Ford paid for it. The next official presidential new car was a 69 Lincoln ( they say its a 70, but its a suicide door Lincoln Continental that they quit making in 1969)

As you probably know the government only leased this car from Ford for a very cheap price, it remained in service in the white house garage till about 1977. As a kid I remember seeing a news story about 1967-68, about a Hess and Eisenhardt limousine that had been ordered by a African dictator who by the time the car was done a year later, had been run out of office and the car was available for purchase. The conversion from Lincoln Continental sedan to limousine was all done by hand

  36.  @lired70  well since it was boom...boom and boom, it took that long for the agent to run up to the Lincoln, which was when Jackie was out on the trunk trying to get a piece of his skull out there. Everyone thought she was trying to help the agent, but she later wrote this . He got there quick and then the driver took off for the hospital.

  43. it always had the jump seat, in the middle where the Connoly"s were sitting, watch some video of Mrs Connolly waving to the crowd , Gov Connolly was hit too and seriously wounded, so 2 in the front, 2 in the middle and the president and Mrs kennedy in the back seat. Kennedy was in the process of taking over the federal reserve, ( it's private) international financial concerns didn't like it, his adminstration had really ticked off the Mafia and Cuba.   60. I knew someone killed as he got in his car, there was a investigation etc, and the car was given back to the widow with blood all over it, a company that cleans things like this up was hired to clean this very nice truck

The car was not washed at parkland, it was also not investigated for Months, more like weeks, because it was sent to Ohio end of December 63. The Air Force One that he flew home on was was also used even longer than the Lincoln Continental, they used that till 1998

I've noticed we aren't seeing limos like we used to, mostly black suburban type cars and seen black stock size Cadillac XTS's on the road. Looks like people don't want to stand out with limos like that anymore

I was 9 too, I was attending a Episcopal elementary school and our school vicar called for emergency chapel and announced that the president had been shot in Dallas and had prayers.( The death announcement hadn't happened yet). There wasn't the political division then , like now, and everyone from both sides of the isle were very upset about this. A sad but, interesting time in our history
