I remember when they tried to convert those engines to diesel. No way where they going to handle that compression. Even without the filtration problems, the engine simply would not have lasted.

You heard right! I cannot imagine how this engine did not make the list. would you like to know why you don't see them sold now. They LASTED TOO DAMN LONG!! (true)

I once had a girlfriend who stated 'you can't get 100,00 out of an American made car'. I introduced her to my brother and his friends. they have cars older than her with UNTOLD miles on them because they were built with 100,000 mile limits on the odometers. She shut the fuck up.

That first car would be the ill-fated Cosworth vega engine. aluminum. They should've known better.

How could you leave out the one they quit making because it lasted too long? The Chrysler/Dodge slant six? That engine was and is truly a legend and a monster when it comes to durability and reliability!!! I'm a GM man, and I'd put the slant six up against any diesel Mercedes ever put into production!! We had one as a company car where I worked, and we wanted the car GONE! It was a deathtrap on wheels. One day the engine starts knocking, I put it to the floor. I throw a rod, then another, and it's still running! we get of the highway, throw rocks into the hole on the side of the engine (the hole the size of a football), and the damn thing is floored, refusing to lock up!!! Son of a bitch that's one tough engine!!

The first year of honda accord. The engine had way too much compression and blew gaskets left and right. My dad had one. Total lemon. Also very hard to start when hot or cold. Every year since then, the accord has given great performance, but that first year was CRAP!!! (he had the engine rebuilt TWICE under warranty)

Fiber timing gears are nothing new. Been used since the sixties.
