My thoughts:
If we had more time, I would've asked a lot more and asked particularly for clarification on some statements he made. I think most of my disagreements are from either misunderstandings on my part or a lack of clarity on the professor's part. Both of these would've been cleared up with more time, but sadly we only had 30 minutes (which I dragged out to 45ish lol).
1. Professor Wolff seems either confused or otherwise deliberately unclear when it comes to the idea of imperialism and China. His answer wasn't a definite yes or no, which is fine. The qualifying remarks, however, seems strange ("the movement to control their sources of inputs of raw materials..." for imperialism). It isn't incorrect per se, but it isn't entirely correct either. The definition is too broad, basically. Finally, he seems to insinuate any country that exhibits the Capitalist "employer-employee relationship" can be considered imperialist (or "takes part in such activities", in his words). Maybe in clarification he means that they have the tendency to do so?
2. Professor Wolff's definition of Socialism seems to hinge particularly heavy on the "reorganization of the enterprise" aspect, to the point that, if it isn't present to his definition, it isn't Socialism (according to him). Now I feel this is a similar error to those that consider solely state control by a proletarian party to be legitimate Socialism, and the technicalities of how production is organized is a secondary or even tertiary matter. In my personal opinion, both of these need to be present (and historically were present to various degrees) for a full-bodied Socialism to exist. Regardless, Wolff's strange comments in which he links Soviet Socialism to a social-democratic formulation (and hence a form of state-Capitalism) is just silly and plain wrong. I'm sure he would've clarified had I asked, but we didn't have the time. For those interested though, Soviet Socialism did not have markets (in the extensive sense; only for cooperative farms), did not have a market for labour-power, did not have private ownership (with the notable exception of cooperative farms in the Khrushchev-era), did not have and allow ownership of capital by private individuals, did not have wage-labour, did not have a separate class that related differently to the means of production than the proletarian/peasant base of the USSR....etc. This is very different from even the most radical form of Social-Democracy practiced by Europe, which retained all of these features. Most of the difficulties of realizing Soviet Socialism were a result of the USSR's conditions (i.e. agrarian society with a notable peasant population, destruction as a result of war(s), international diplomatic and military harassment etc.), and Wolff has recognized this in other talks.
3. Professor Wolff seems to be very adamantly pro--economic planning. What a chad.
4. Professor Wolff seems to think in a very "long-game" way towards worker cooperatives. His train of thought seems to be:
Build up of cooperatives -> Develop increased political capital and a drive to push for their interests -> Slowly join the political system (which benefits cooperative development), and eventually the material conditions and the consequences of such action would heighten the class struggle to a possible point of revolution (or some level of civil strife, at least). This isn't the only way it could go in his mind, it seems, but I have a feeling that that is what he intended to highlight. There is merit to this position, but I think this should be only part of a wider Socialist movement (and I think Wolff might feel the same). Very interesting.
5. Criticisms of Yugoslavia? Dunking on markets again. Absolute chad.
This was from a very short chat where I didn't have the time to really ask too deeply on each point. Nonetheless, it was very interesting and fruitful. He is obviously a very intelligent man with a lot of nuance to his positions. In the future, I hope to be able to get him on again for a longer time, so that we can delve a little deeper. Lemme know what you guys think.

Edit: I managed to get footage in. Apparently the trick is not to use any audio along with.
Hello again! A little off-brand today. This is a video I've wanted to do for years now, and I've finally found the time. Basically, Aladdin should be used in intro courses on Orientalism as it's such a stark and popular example of the concept. Everything from the music, to the visuals, dress, expressions used, and even names drip of Orientalist perceptions (or rather, misconceptions) dressed in pleasant child-friendly garb. Even more interestingly, it has received little (if any) negative attention or critique from this angle, which shows that for most of the Western world, Orientalism remains an unquestioned norm. I hope you enjoy it!

Videos being responded to are in the description if you wanna follow along.
Hi there, we're back with our favorite friend Vaush to discuss how we can defend drone-strikes to own the tankies le epic style. I wish a merry Christmas to all who celebrate it, and look forward to a year of more fun to be had with you all :)
General point: Vaush did not respond in good-faith, at all. In fact, he didn't even really respond. Notice how I showed his whole video in my original response, but he didn’t show mine. I wanted people to get Vaush’s full argument, and I didn’t talk over or split his arguments in half when I went over them. He, however, did talk over mine, barely paid attention half the time, spent more of the video arguing with chat about side issues than actually addressing my video, and quit the video half way through. He does this all while moving the goal posts. I wasn’t saying that leftists should not vote for Biden under any possible circumstance. What I said (and repeated numerous times in the original video) was that the "evidence" that Vaush presents in support of the position that Lenin and Marx would be in favour of voting for Biden is in fact simply incorrect. My video essentially just calls out Vaush for not actually doing research and being intellectually dishonest. He never engaged with that. Think about why he did that. Either he is too incompetent to properly deal with the argument, too lazy to engage or simply cowardly. Regardless, let me repeat this a final time because he didn’t seem to catch it the first like 10 times I said it. If the American left upon sufficient investigation based on facts and democratic consensus decide to tactically support this or that party, fine. Do so. Just don’t pretend that Mao would’ve voted for Biden.
This took a minute to come out, but I've been really busy with work. I hope that's okay with you guys. Timestamps are in the description if you need them. Love you all <3

Hey there! In case you're coming from Vaush commenting on my video, he probably attempted to misrepresent or twist my video into saying something it isn't. Watch it and find out for yourself :)
This video was supposed to go up a day or two ago but surgery rotations have kept me busy, sorry about that. The gist of this is, I don't care too much for the Biden debate, as the effect on myself as a recipient of US imperialism isn't affected by the minute differences between democrat or republican presidents. But, Vaush is so incredibly wrong about what Marx, Lenin and co thought about elections and electoralism it's painful. He systematically misquotes or takes out of context every single quotation, while at the same time outing himself as not having actually read the theory he's so proud of himself for supposedly reading. Hope you have fun, and try not to be blown away by the Only Theory Understander(TM).
Note: at the 30:23 mark, I accudentally place the quote from the previous section from Mao into the section from Engels, my bad.

Join me in taking a look at some of the worst arguments I've ever seen both in favor for Capitalism and against Socialism. Half lies, half misinformation; it's the usual stuff from our favorite climate-change denialists, PragerU! Just remember: Socialism is when the government does stuff, and the more stuff it does, the more Socialist it is. And if it does a whole lotta stuff, it's Communism.

Hello again! This is the second part to my previous video, although you can watch it as a standalone thing. Join me for the next (and final!) part of this miniseries where I discuss where race-realist ideas can lead (hint, it's not anywhere pleasant).

00:00 - Introduction and recap.
00:24 - Myth 5, Racial test scores, IQ, Lead and a lot more bad science.
11:32 - Myth 6, Jaguars have no sub-species, and neither do humans. Also, citing studies that disprove other points they've made elsewhere lol
15:17 - Myth 7, My favorite part. Very, very selective citing from very shitty sources, plus more lying about the findings of studies.
22:41 - Myth 8, I accidentally say 9 because I mistyped in my script. Apparently the more white blood you have, the more succesful you are. Explains why there are no stupid full-bred white people right?
24:53 - Conclusion.

The American political system is so locked down that, no matter how "progressive" a candidate may be, the system itself is set up to always prioritize the power of capital and profits. That's why it's called a dictatorship of the bourgeoisie.
However, like I said in the end of the video, I can't fully comment on the American situation. It may be better, or not. It is up to American comrades to decide, not me. Regardless, imo, it shouldn't be the principle task, be it Biden, Bernie or whoever else. Building a working class party and community organizing should be the task of the hour, in my opinion. Generally though, as an Iraqi, the minute differences of democrat vs republican presidents mean very little to me as someone in Iraq, as the results (imperialism, military aggression, sanctions etc.) will nonetheless remain.
The point of the video though, is to show that Vaush is misrepresenting Marx, Lenin etc.; not to comment on Biden vs whoever else.
I hope that clears it up a bit.

I had no idea what to do for the thumbnail so here you go, Mark Zuckerberg as a flowering skull. Let's take a look at how freedom of the press doesn't exist, and what Time magazine had to say about the USSR.

Wa alaikum. Happy new year habibi!
I myself am a Socialist, yes. I'm a Socialist for many reasons, but the three main ones I'd say are:
1. The superiority of the Socialist system over Capitalism (i.e. planning, the progress and performance of former Socialisms, etc.)
2. The inherent contradictions of Capitalism that cannot be solved (i.e. the falling rate of profit)
3. The religiously problematic aspects of Capitalism (i.e. Riba, capital-hoarding, the privatization of natural resources, the forced system of increasing inequality, etc.)
The left-right dichotomy isn't too helpful for us as we speak. Let's take something else instead, that being whether you support Capitalism or not. Let's discuss the issues of Capitalism from an Islamic perspective, shall we?
Capitalism is built atop the hoarding of capital, interest/Riba and illegal business at all levels (so much so that scarcely a single industry hasn't been touched by drug/arms/human trafficking trade). On top of this, the ideological effects on Islam (social individualization, the reproduction of capitalism, alienation, the reorientation of city life, the neglect of environment etc.) are all haram as they "spread mischief in the land", to use a Quranic metaphor. Modern Capitalism and the vast majority of modern Capitalist institutions subsist on interest. All modern banking is interest based, for example. If a business takes a loan, most likely its from money gained from interest, and has interest placed on it in turn. Truly as the Prophet (peace and blessings upon him) said, "Whoever does not consume it (Riba) will be affected by its dust."
Most "Shariah-compliant" banks aren't really; they just have a smaller percentage of assets in haram forms of investments. Same goes with most "halal" stock investments. All of these come with the "dust" the Prophet warned us of.
Capitalism has outlived its usefulness as a system, and a centrally planned economic measures can be far more effective for the modern day, especially with modern computing.
Now someone may say, "let's have a hybrid system. The best of both worlds!". This doesn't work, sadly.
You cannot have a hybrid system; Capitalism cannot exist without Riba, for example. Capitalism requires wage-labour, too, which is also religiously problematic. If you have that, no Socialism. Capitalism requires expansive private property rights, if you have that, no Socialism (and is Islamically incompatible). Capitalism requires the extraction of surplus value for profit, with that present, no Socialism (and again, also Islamically problematic).
Hence, a new economic system is required.
Socialism is a far superior alternative both religiously as well as rationally.
We can discuss this much further if you'd like. DM me on twitter :)

Manchuria (which has several major cities and is an industrial hub of China) has a population exceeding 100 million, more than 4 times the population of the DPRK.
I literally have an atlas home with satellite imagery of the different continents, with the DPRK having, as mentioned in the video, similar levels of light pollution as most other imperial periphery countries (including my native Iraq). You can check this out online with a simple google search, too. Furthermore, I specifically linked the video where this is discussed further, so check that out.
Finally, and you seem to have conveniently missed this point, but the DPRK is the most sanctioned country on earth, and they have suffered with severe fuel shortages since the 90s because the US physically will not allow them to import any (along with other fun stuff like certain medicines, because the US is humanitarian like that). Unsurprisingly, they'll light up their cities less as a result.
In Iraq, especially during the horrific sanctions period, we'd have lights only for max 12 hours a day, and nighttime was always pitch black as the power plants were shut down every night in order to conserve energy. We are a major oil producing nation and still suffered this much, I can only imagine how difficult it must be for the DPRK which has little energy resources aside from renewables. This same propaganda nonsense was pulled against us, of course with convenient omission of the circumstances around why things were that way.
Setting weird and racist attitudes towards the Congo aside, the DPRK was entirely decimated by US bombing runs during the Korean war. Almost all of their industry was bombed into the stone-age, I mentioned this in the video fairly clearly.
Nuance and empathy is important. The point of this video is to humanize a people that mainstream media infantilizes, demeans or calls for the genocide of almost on the daily. That's the take-home message here.

Actually watch the video my guy. None of his criticisms were simply against "authoritarianism", they were explicitly against Socialist nations of the era. Had he truly had an issue with totalitarianism (a philosophically nebulous and highly ideological characterization, mind you), he would've spent some time likewise critiquing the various Fascisms of the era (as well as the US). But he didn't, and the few individual times he did, he'd follow it with an immediate pivot back to criticizing Socialism.
Not that Socialism cannot be criticized esp in practice, but when someone's sole material contribution is anti-Communist, you have to really examine their intentions.
You miss the fact that he snitched on minorities and leftists to what was essentially a secret police organization. Likewise you glossed over his clear and unrepentant racism, his attempted rape of a woman (and that's one we know of, God knows if there were more), the propagation of his work by the single largest terrorist organization on earth etc. etc.
Orwell likewise was absolutely despised by the people who fought aside him in Spain, with several mentioning that he'd be more at home fighting with the Fascists than with them. He just wasn't a good guy, and that's okay to admit. You can still read his work if you enjoy it, I myself love reading Lovecraft despite his many reactionary views. That doesn't mean I'm obliged to defend his character or anything else.
I highly recommend you take a look at the sources in the pinned comment.

Only nutrition? You haven't read the study, have you?
Nutrition, literacy, infant mortality, access to healthcare, access for minorities, death rates from preventable diseases, access to education, employment, housing....etc. If this is meaningless to you, well, there's not much more to say now is there?

@BurningFyre Please be more respectful to people, the hostility is unnecessary.
Although, I don't understand your point. The full context is being provided through my explanations; the arguments being made are either in explanation of the context, or a discussion of how my views evolved since (as these are quite old). Finally, I mention the DMs thing not because "it's cool" or whatever that's supposed to mean, but to maintain that people can always reach me if they want my perspective. My primary purpose is to educate, that's why I make videos. If people have questions, they can get in touch. Furthermore, this is backed up by the fact that I do genuinely answer all my DMs; please find me a person that hasn't gotten a response. The only ones that haven't are within the past month, as work has been more heavy than usual recently and I work 12 hour shifts.
Please, have more consideration of other people's circumstances.

Congrats on being eurocentrist.
Most of the third-world is still semi-agrarian and has a peasant class. My own country (Iraq), as well as almost all Arab countries (aside from a few gulf countries) have a peasantry with petty small-plot production, as well as kulak elements up to today. Egypt and Iraq in particular, but also Morocco, Palestine, Syria, Algeria etc.
Just because it doesn't apply in Germany or the US, doesn't mean it doesn't apply, period.
Finally, read the pinned comment. You're being dogmatic for ideological purity reasons.
To claim "state-capitalism" is not only incorrect, it's outright silly. You're basically reducing yourself to the position that, unless revolution happens globally, there will never be Socialism. Global Socialist revolution hasn't happened, and most likely wont. Basically, relegating yourself to inaction since, no matter what you do, you'll always end up with "state-Capitalism".

This is an incorrect view. Firstly, there is no such thing as "pure" Capitalism; Capitalism is scientifically defined as the existence of markets, private ownership of the means of production, and wage-labour. If we're being pedantic, finance capital's domination and imperialism can be added too for the analysis of the current system.
Secondly, if you compromise with Capitalism, you aren't "meeting half way", you're effectively yielding your entire position to the support of the Capitalist system. Putting it simply, there is no "small-scale" wage-labour. There isn't "just a bit" of private ownership of capital (private, not personal property). As for Capitalism's cardinal issues, read about the falling rate of profit. Here's a video to get you started:

Define authoritarianism. Almost everything that exists in the DPRK exists in various forms to differing extents in the US, South Korea etc. The difference being, the DPRK is a country at war and is horrifically sanctioned; to not understand how this can negatively affect i.e. personal freedoms is to be intentionally blind imo. "Like the Nordic states" oh you mean like the one that elected a literal former nazi party into power? Read up on concepts of value transference and unequal exchange to understand Nordic "democracy" (and also, read up on class analysis; democracy doesn't exist in a vacuum).
The foreign media execution point is a literal lie, and several experts in the field (whatever that's worth in such a propagandized field) equally believe it to be absolute nonsense.
Watch my video on defectors, as well as my original DPRK video for answers.
To claim monarchism/dynasty is simply just kinda racist, because the different Kims have held different positions from each other, and none inherited any official or even unofficial position. Is it ideal? No. But the burden of proof lays on those that make this silly claim.
For some naunce, the Kennedy family had entire generations in politics in the US, doesn't mean it's a monarchy. Likewise with the Bush family, Clintons etc.
A conversation can be had but only when all sides make an effort to get the facts/nuance. I recommend plenty in my original video on the DPRK.

Saudi Arabia has taken in more than half a million, Lebanon over a million, 1.4 million in Jordan, Turkey over 3 million, UAE over 300 000, Iraq over 300 000, Egypt over half a million and so on and so on.
Remember, it was France, Britain, the US and NATO in general that destabilized Syria and bombed it to the ground. It's only fair they take some share of the load.
Also, Venezuela is an ocean away lol

This is not at all a ubiquitous opinion amongst Marxists (in fact, it isn't even a Marxist opinion/argument). In fact, the guest in question specifically defined himself as a Spinozist in philosophical outlook.
I personally don't hold this opinion, and neither do JT or Yugopnik (or most irl Marxists I know). This train of thought mostly emerged as a result of the vulgar materialism that was very common in the post-enlightenment period up until the early 1900s (and was criticized by many major figures of Marxism).
That being said, the episode was about the guest, so we let them speak. You hear our opinions in every non guest episode so it's a bit unnecessary to impose them during guest ones.
That being said though, gulags were 80-85% regular criminals (murderers, rapists, embezzlers etc). The rest were political (mostly of the fascist/white monarchist etc kind). Mistakes did occur and eventually the gulag system was gradually closed in the post war period. Gulag mortality trailed regular Soviet mortality interesting enough (increased during the war, fell afterwards etc.), but they were by no means death camps or any other cold warrior trope. If I recall correctly, they were comparable to the world average too (but I'd need to check this point).
I hope all this context kinda helps you understand my perspective on this.

Soviet people, not Russian.
The Soviet people consisted of Russians, Ukrainians, Belorussians, Lithuanians, Karlian-Finns, Estonians, Latvians, Kazakhs, Usbeks, Georgians, Armenians, Mongolians, Koreans, Chavush people and many many more. They all contributed to the victory of the Soviet Union over the Nazi filth.
