  1. There was no way Trump was going to pick Rubio simply because they're from the same state. Under the Constitution, electors from State X can't vote for both a presidential and vice-presidential candidate who are also from State X. In other words, if Trump had picked Rubio and they had won Florida, its electors could vote for Trump for President and someone else for VP or someone else for President and Rubio for VP. They couldn't vote for both of them.

  2. This is nothing new. During the primaries, all the candidates claim their same party opponents are going to bring fire and brimstone upon the country if elected, then when a nominee is clear, those who weren't picked turn 180° and hail the nominee as the second coming of Christ.
