  1. In that hypothetical situation in which the French monarchy is restored, would the monarch necessarily have to be the eldest living direct (or closest to direct) descendant of the last monarch? If I'm remembering correctly, there have been situations in European history where someone who wasn't a direct heir to a particular throne was invited by a country's government to become its monarch.
