  3. Claiming that third party candidates are "taking votes away" from establishment candidates is one good example as to why I've stopped voting for anyone who has a (D) or (R) after her/his name. It's pure arrogance to assume that a candidate is entitled to people's votes and if voters decide to vote for someone else, that other candidate "took the votes away" from the establishment candidate. If an establishment candidate can't persuade enough people to vote for her/him, that's a failure on his/her part, not the fault of the third party candidates.

  10. Not that those aren't issues that should be addressed, but incidents like the shooting in El Paso tend to get more in depth coverage because of the number of people killed at one time. If a drunk driver killed 22 people in one accident or a doctor's negligence caused 22 people to die on the same day, those issues would be front and center.

No candidate is a "spoiler" because each candidate is responsible for convincing voters that he/she is the best person for the office. If a candidate loses, then she/he needs to evaluate what went wrong instead of whining that another candidate "took my voters!"

At the risk of sounding like an old fogey, back in my day, if there was a need for emergency communication with my family when I was in school, I'd go to the office and make the phone call from there. And if my family needed to contact me, they would call the office and someone would announce over the intercom that I was to report to the office.
