The First Amendment doesn't require any private company to give us a platform to exercise our freedom of speech.

jbond5150 You don't seem to be a Trump supporter, so why are you using their language?

@Semper_Iratus If you think I'm wrong about companies not being obligated to provide platforms for our speech, then please show me a link to the appropriate US law.

@furtivedolus2504 If you're trying to say I'm wrong and companies are legally obligated to publish our thoughts, then please show me the link to the applicable US law.

jbond5150 I don't disagree with your assessment of Trump, but we shouldn't be stooping down to the level of a Trump supporter by using derivatives of the vulgar r-word. That's pretty much the same as using the n-word in my book.

@someguy1143 Be careful what you wish for. A government with that kind of power won't stop with just the news outlets you don't like. Or as a wise man phrased it: "If they'll do it for ya, they'll do it to ya".

@furtivedolus2504 Until you can show me a United States law that requires private companies to provide platforms for speech (as I originally requested of you) or admit that you can't, our part of this conversation is done.

I don't see how eliminating the protections of Section 230 will resolve anything for those who are whining that Facebook, Twitter, etc..., aren't promoting their views unchallenged. If social media platforms have to be more careful about what is posted to their sites, then they are going to clamp down even harder on accounts that consistently post misleading, incorrect, and/or inflammatory content.

@furtivedolus2504 Your opinion as to what companies should and shouldn't be allowed to do is not US law. If you can't answer my request as written, then just admit it.

@MrHobomidget I never said otherwise. 😕

@mercurialpierrot7073 "These 'private companies' are linked to our government. They came together and deplatfomed a whole platform. You don't see a problem with that?" I'm not quite sure what you're asking. "Linked" in what way? What is "deplatforming" a platform?

@Matt-ro7cb If it's a private business, a phone company should have the right to deny service to anyone it believes is using its services to encourage others to commit violent acts or other crimes. In regards to the "sacred" Section 230, you might want to look at one of my earlier posts: "I don't see how eliminating the protections of Section 230 will resolve anything for those who are whining that Facebook, Twitter, etc..., aren't promoting their views unchallenged. If social media platforms have to be more careful about what is posted to their sites, then they are going to clamp down even harder on accounts that consistently post misleading, incorrect, and/or inflammatory content."
