  1. Chronologically, they aren't, but biologically and mentally they still are. Even though, under current laws in the US, they don't have to return to school, they probably are because (a) getting back into a normal routine will help them adjust to missing five years and (b) considering the type of school they attend, they are all probably heading for college and that won't happen without a high school diploma.

  2. I thought they went back to collect the stones to bring back the people who were snapped, not to prevent the snap in the first place.
