+blackfemme I'm White and I couldn't agree with you more about how Blacks get shut out of mainstream history classes (at least they did when I was going to school, I don't know about now). Up until my last couple of years of school, there wasn't one peep about any Blacks between the Civil War and MLK.

I'll bet not a lot of people outside Florida know about Fort Mose. It was a settlement for free Blacks established about 1738 by the Spanish territory's governor.

+twistedblktrekie Regarding the part about Black and Hispanic computer science and engineering graduates not being hired or Black people not getting loans, my question is has anyone ever dug a little deeper to find out specific reasons why? I ask this because I find it difficult to believe that most of the people responsible for hiring at engineering / technology firms or approving loans wake up in the morning wondering how many non-White people they can screw over that day (although I'm sure there probably are some that do). Maybe I'm being naive, but wouldn't it be more productive to answer specific difficulties rather than just pointing fingers and claim that a group of people are racist?

+twistedblktrekie When I was going to school, up until my last history class in 11th grade, Black people popped up during the Civil War, then disappeared again until Martin Luther King, Jr., began his fight for Civil Rights. That was confusing to me during my younger school years and I'm White.
