The appetite suppressant, Ayds, was on the market long before the disease was discovered, so it was more of a case of bad coincidence rather than poor marketing on the company's part.

+Amanda Ingels Secret deodorant used to have an ad campaign that showed a guy trying to use his wife's Secret because "it's strong enough for a man", but the wife told him he couldn't use it because "it's made for a woman".

Well, the whole point of a business is to make money and if a company does something that their customers and/or potential customers don't agree with, then it's in the best interest of the company to rectify the situation before the customers decide not to patronize that company anymore. Although it's not something that was offensive, the best example I can think of where a company ticked off their customers and had to quickly engage in damage control was when Coca Cola brought out New Coke back in the mid 80's. People hated it and let Coke know, not only by communicating with the company, but also by not buying that product. Coca Cola got the message and brought back the original Coke.

Diamond Tiara Oh, I agree 100% with that. We, as a society, do tend to overreact over the smallest irritants. However, my point was that even though private companies don't have to answer to any legal authority for being offensive, they do have to answer to their customers. And if their customers feel offended enough (regardless of justification), it's in the company's best financial interest to rectify the situation.
