  1. Personally, I thought he was trying to cheat, but if Barker had outright accused him of doing that and the guy denied it, that could've been bad PR for the show so I suspect it was decided just to let him have the prize to avoid any problems.

  2. Personally, I think he was trying to cheat. However, if Barker or TPTB on the show had accused him of it and he claimed he wasn't, that could've led to some bad PR for the show. Therefore, it was just easier to give him the prize.
