  3.  @robertscofield7845  Cuba was a protectorate from 1898-1902, not exactly the same as a territory. Regardless, I doubt many people here in the US would want our government to take on the responsibility of governing and providing for Cuba even if the Cuban people did vote for it (I doubt that would happen either).
