  2. It's a quirk of the English language that "king" always means a reigning monarch, whereas "queen" can refer to a reigning monarch or the wife of the king. If Philip had "king" as part of his title, people would have assumed he was the monarch instead of his wife.

  3.  @rodibremo  The wife of a British king has always been a queen consort. Her title, though, has always been simply "Queen [First Name]".
