Not to mention who would they call for an ambulance, although as far out as that area is, someone having a heart attack would probably be dead before help could get there even if it was coming from Manitoba.

@nordmenn0855 I've read figures that state anywhere from 70 to 90 percent of Canadians live within 100 miles of the US border. However, it has nothing to do with wanting to "become American" and more to do with the habitability of Canadian terrain.

That's a slightly different situation, though. Yes, there's a chunk of Canada separating Alaska from the mainland US, but most people who live there don't have to cross the Canadian border everyday to do common things like get groceries or go to school.

It's no different in principle than being asked to provide proof that the US is "your country" when you return from a trip abroad.
