  1. The US wasn't responsible for directly shooting down the plane, true. However, the point McCain was trying to make is that the US irresponsibly set a chain of events in motion that led to the downing of the plane.

  2.  @echo116  I think you missed the point. Yes, Iran is directly responsible for the shooting down of the plane. However, would that plane have ever been in danger if it wasn't for the actions of the US?
