@Chris Webster: Then I guess every news outlet that reported this story was conspiring to mislead the public for some reason, because they all stated that Davis retired. That is, retired from football, not from working life entirely. Just because you retire from a particular job doesn't mean that you've retired permanently. My father retired from the navy at age 40, but didn't permanently retire until about 25 years later.
I'm not judging what Davis did. If he doesn't want to play football anymore, that's his concern, not mine. The only reason I even gave this a second's worth of attention is that it's a little odd to just up and retire, quit, or whatever you want to call it, right in the middle of a game without any of the other players, coaches / managers, or executives of the team having any idea this was going to happen.
