@nuffsaid3317 I would imagine this was more a case of Californians heeding the words of Martin Luther King, Jr., and judging the Black candidate by the content of his character rather than the color of his skin. In Elder's case, that content was found lacking.

In this particular election, I don't think it was loyalty to Newsom or the Democratic Party in general that spurred turnout as much as not wanting to hear the words, "Governor Larry Elder".

@gadiantonrobber5692 I can't agree or disagree about Newsom's performance as governor since I don't live in California. But I do live in Florida and if we had a recall election in which my choices were the current governor (who acts more like a banana republic dictator than a law abiding governor) and someone I perceived as even worse (don't know who could be worse, but let's pretend), I'd very reluctantly vote not to recall DeSantis.

@gadiantonrobber5692 "I dont live in FL, but to me Desantis is fighting FOR your rights." And that is a excellent example as to why I try not to judge how other states are run and/or who's running them. The perspective of someone who does live there can be vastly different than the perspective of someone who doesn't. You believe DeSantis is fighting for my rights, I see him as trampling over the rights of almost everyone in this state.

Did it ever occur to you that maybe the results aren't due to people loving Newsom, but more to do with disliking who could've replaced him even more?

Because CNN knows the number of registered voters in the remaining areas to be counted and figured that even if every one of them voted to recall Newsom, it still wouldn't put the "Yes" vote at the 50%+1 vote needed for Newsom to lose.

@gadiantonrobber5692 "GAVIN was recalled..." Every news outlet has been reporting that Newsom survived the recall vote. What sources are saying different?

It probably would be more accurate to say Newsom was retained.

Elder was judged by the content of his character instead of the color of his skin and found lacking.

@danishbiochem That's pretty much my point. I'm not a Californian, so take my opinion for what it's worth, but I really think Newsom survived simply because voters did not like the sound of "Governor Elder".
