The fact that we talk so much about the Egyptians' true skin colour makes more of a statement about ourselves than about the Egyptians. (That doesn't mean that I'm accusing Metatron of anything, I find his videos very interesting.)

I'd say that an actor simply has to look like the character he has to play. That doesn't necessarily mean he has to have the same "race" or ethnicity (but he he often will), he simply has to look like it. John Wayne didn't look Mongolian, so it didn't work. But Egyptian actor Omar Sharif played a Russian in "Dr. Zhivago" and it worked totally (in other movies, Omar Sharif played Frenchmen, Germans, Englishmen, Arabs, etc., and all of that was totally fine with me). Dwayne Johnson worked for me as Hercules and Jason Momoa worked for me as Conan the Barbarian. Idris Elba as Heimdall didn't.

Well, that's common knowledge and not at all specifically Egyptian. "Upper" and "lower" has nothing to do with north and south. Just thin of Netherlands / Low countries, Lower Bavaria (being more to the North than Upper Bavaria), Lower Rhine... lower always meant "nearer to the sea".

Are there any historical sources for this or are you just making this up? Is there an ancient Egyptian text that says "native Egyptians didn't like their Greek rulers"?

@Matt_Alaric You are ill-informed. Biologically, there is no white or black race. East Africans are more genetically different from West Africans than Europeans are from Asians. Genetically, East Africans are closer to Europeans than to West Africans.

@Matt_Alaric Please read what biologists write and stop making things up. Differerences between human populations are real, but categorizing racial groups is totally arbitrary. There was a time when Jews, Irish and Italian weren't considerd white. Early European seafarers who came to East Asia reported at home that Chinese and Japanes are whites. Think about that . Africa is the world's most genetically diverse place. Race is only real in a sense that it is perceived as a kind of culture.

It's meant to show that it hasn't a scientific basis. @Matt_Alaric No, you didn't understand my argument. You're proving it again. Then reason why the concept of race was accepted by everyone until the 1960s and isn't any more is simple: scientific certainties change. They always have. Science can correct itself, ideology can't. Today, we know more about genetics than we did in 1960. I agree with what you say in biological sex. But the reasons why scientist don't use the concept of race any more are plausible. BTW, the hooded crow example is flawed (species / subspecies vs. "race").

It is possible that the Cleopatra's Greek dynasty had mixed with native Egyptian noble families. On the other hand, you should avoid cherrypicking. You are mentioning depictions of Cleopatra where she looks "Negroid". However, there are many other depicitions of her where she clearly doesn't. It's always tempting to recognize only those pieces of evidence that go along with one's own narrative.

"Herodotus wrote in his account that the Kemites were a black skined people." Actually Herodotus uses a Greek word that could also be translated as "dark skinned". A "dark" can mean a lot of different things when refering to skin colour.

@JazzEnthusiast It's more about words meaning different things in different contexts. In an Agatha Christie novel, someone describes a suspect (a native Englishman), and then the detective asks "Dark or fair?" In this context, "dark" means something totally different ("dark" like Catherine Zeta-Jones is dark when compared to someone like Ed Sheeren) than when someone uses "dark" to stress the difference between Indians and Europeans.

@juniatapark54 Yes, but it it could very well be that the division of the world into continents is totally irrelevant for those people with regards to their identity and skin colour.

@juniatapark54 The threefold division of the Old World into Africa, Asia, and Europe has been in use since the 6th century BC. I very much doubt that the ancient Egyptian identified with continents they couldn't have had a concept of.

@MrPhillip1964 Psychologists know that a person who looks for ducks will see ducks everyhwere. Confirmation bias is a problem among humans. Some of the Egyptian statues could be meant to depict Blacks, I give you that. However, they could be meant to depict people that look like today's Egpytians too. Don't read too much in it.

I'd say we mean a person of African heritage with brown (not black!) skin. So, what words did Roman and Greek historians used in their own language? A word that means black, brown, dark... or word than can mean sometimes "dark", sometimes "black"? And how can we know that they mean the same thing as we do with that word?
