Even if Russia achieves military victory in Ukraine, it can bury its world power ambitions. The recent events very clearly showed that the Russian industrial basis is too small (and hampered by inefficiency and corruption, and too dependant on Western imports) to wage war against medium sized countries if... a) these countries are determined to resist b) The West is determined to support such countries with weapons c) Russia's economy is weakened by sanctions. At this point, a Russian military victory against will be a pyrrhic victory in the global struggle with the West. Russia is weakened and won't be able to conduct aggressive foreign policies in the foreseeable future. During the next years, the West will become independent from Russian gas and oil so that card can never be played again. The geopolitical big players of our future will be the US and China, not Russia.

@SaulKopfenjager Chinese and Russian interests are not always the same. And if Putin's Russia depends on Chinese support, Putin's Russia isn't a world power.

@jokerbattle7331 The West doesn't care about Russia caring what the West thinks. And no, Russia won't remain a global power. You cannot pretend being a world power when your economy is smaller than Italy's. "Europe is no longer the economic heart" And who is then, according to you? "Europe will never have sufficient gas" Actually, there is sufficient gas on the world market without Russia.

@estoyaqui5386 You're talking about a fantasy world. I'm talking about reality. The average German is more than three times as rich as the average Russian. Nobody will freeze in winter, Germany's gas storage is more than 90% right now which will be enough for the winter (and the there's still the possibility that winter will be rather mild).
