There was no basis for Margaret Beaufort's queenship. Henry VII was a king because he killed the crowned King of England on the field of battle and he married Edward IV's eldest surviving child. Margaret Beaufort could have done none of that. Margaret was the granddaughter of John of Gaunt's bastard, whose half-brother, Henry IV, legitimized him while simultaneously barring him and his descendants from the line of succession to the throne. There was a basis for Margaret Pole's queenship, however - only surviving child of George, Duke of Clarence; niece to two kings; and unmuddied by that whole bastardization business stemming from a marriage done in secret and kept secret for months (Edward IV and Elizabeth Woodville's). Margaret Pole was of course executed by order of Henry VII's son.
