Why should I, a working class American, pay higher taxes to pay off the debts of a college graduate who makes twice what I do?

@rahimn9246 I wouldn't mind if the banks took a hit, but let's be honest here, there is absolutely no way that the loss is going to fall onto the banks. If student loan "forgiveness" happened, it would be on the backs of the taxpayer. Sure, but the responsibility still lies with the loan holder. I'm all for warning people about the dangers of debt. I know that schools lie to students to try to trick them into getting a useless and expensive degree, but that doesn't make it okay to saddle those who saw through the lies and made a more responsible choice with the burden of someone else's bad decision. I had nearly $10,000 stolen from me, basically my entire savings up to that point at age 22. No one was there to take the loss for me. It was my fault for trusting a scumbag. I never asked anyone to take that fall for me, all I ask is not to be saddled with anyone else's debt.
