  1. The actual battle off Samar was 3 Fletchers, and a handful of escorts with air support. vs. the entire Japanese center force. It ended with a American victory and very heavy casualties to the Japanese cruiser force, with light to moderate damage spread among the surviving cruisers and battleships. That was 3 Fletchers. Now imagine what more than 10 times that many could do, backed up by a cruiser and battleship force not significantly inferior to that of the IJN forces. Kurita's fleet is in for a battering of the ages.
