A tank, especially the Abrams, is a serious force multiplier. 120mm HE rounds pose a formidable threat to enemy infantry and emplacements, and the Abrams can survive hits that would knock out a lighter AFV like the Bradley or BMP. It's not unusual for an Abrams to survive half a dozen hits in one day that would have killed a lighter vehicle, and be able to make it back to base for repairs. They project power in a way that IFVs just don't.
