The F-35 isn't just the best in the world, it is literally the only operational multirole fighter with stealth capabilities. Yes, it is expensive, partially due to a troubled development (but this is common in arms development) but also because it really is a cutting edge weapon system. American weapons tend to be among the best in the world, which you would expect considering how much we spend on weapons development.

I said something similar, and my reply was deleted. Thanks Youtube.

@SeanSmith-f3t Yeah, they're part of the US government's corporate censorship regime. They work to systematically censor conversation on certain subjects to control how people think and vote.

The left doesn't believe in free speech or democracy, they believe in censorship and violence. Give them what they want. Free speech is for those who believe in it.

The F-35 program has suffered from mission creep and general beauracratic problems, but the actual aircraft is very good. No other aircraft in the world combines stealth with multi-role capabilities. Aircraft like the Su-35 and the F-22 are stealthy, but they lack the loiter time and payload to be effective in strike missions.

The A-10 is a great plane, but the proliferation of man portable anti aircraft missiles is making close air support an increasingly dangerous role for manned aircraft. The F-35 is capable of long loiter times, and can deliver guided munitions more accurately than the A-10 while being invisible to most ground based radar. The F-35 program has had a series or cost overruns, but the aircraft to come out of it is a very effective weapon system with few rivals in the world today.

@FullTimeGaming360 You're right about older generation tanks and aircraft being vulnerable to modern weapons. The invasion of Ukraine is a stunning example of this. Even considering how expensive the F-35 is, the price tag really is justified by the fact that it is a next generation aircraft designed to survive the kinds of weapons we see these days. A missile can't kill a plane if it can't see it. Modern tanks are starting to be equipped with APS, which while expensive, greatly increases their survivability against ATGMs. The advances of technology we've seen lately means that now more than ever, higher quality machines with better trained pilots will out-perform a larger number of cheaper material by a huge margin. A few dozen F-35s which are almost invisible to guided missiles may well be worth ten times their number in older generations of fighter aircraft.

Of course, they're white.

Gay couple are many times more likely to be pedophiles than the general public. I support a ban on gay couples adopting children.

War changes. The F-35 is actually a highly capable multi-role aircraft. Its teething issues are nothing out of the ordinary for such a complicated piece of hardware.

The A-10 is a cool aircraft, but it is very vulnerable to anti aircraft missiles. The F-35 is stealthy and high flying, it can deliver precision strikes in support of ground troops with very little risk of being shot down.

I'm American, my town has bad tap water even by American standards. Our town is otherwise nice, but the tap water is impute to the point of being outside of legal limits, which are already not stringent enough. We filter our water before drinking it, but I recently ordered a distiller which is a better long term solution.

The American gun debate is people who know nothing about guns telling people who grew up around guns that they are evil for owning a gun because some psycho who they never met killed a bunch of kids halfway across the country.

For all of the cost overruns, the F-35 is a much better aircraft than the armchair generals would have you believe. It is one of the most capable multi-role aircraft in service in the world, and the only modern multi-role fighter with VTOL capabilities.

The Warthog is close air support. The F-35 is a strike fighter. It has better loiter times than other stealth fighters, and a much better weapons load, but it is still fundamentally a fighter aircraft. Also, I love the A-10, but man portable anti aircraft missiles are a serious threat to it. Better to fly high and stealthy whenever possible, hence the strike role of the F-35. Close air support can still be performed by helicopters and drones, but the A-10 is nearing the end of its usefulness.
1
They've had some pretty bad price overruns, but to be fair, it is normal for military equipment to need years of testing. This isn't a problem unique to the F-35, all throughout history and to this day, complex weapon systems need to go through a development period of testing and refinement before they can hope to become top tier weapons systems. Historical examples of this include the Panther tank, the Spitfire fighter, Japan's Mogami class cruisers, and even Germany's modern Puma IFV is full of bugs which are being fixed over the course of its development.
1
The F-35 is a pretty good aircraft. The media loves to smear it for being an expensive boondoggle, but in reality, development of cutting edge weapons takes a lot of time and money. This isn't a new phenomenon. Even back in the 80's, there was a hilarious and well directed comedy about the troubled development of the M2 Bradley. This movie was called "The Pentagon Wars." It's a great movie, but it also greatly exaggerates the problems with the Bradley. Every weapon system goes through a long development process, and early teething issues and cost overruns does not always result in a bad product. In the case of the M2 Bradley, despite its troubled development, it turned out to be a fairly competent vehicle. As for the F-35, the development costs are high, but it is a very capable jack of all trades aircraft with few rivals and no true equals.
1
It's actually a good jack of all trades aircraft. Specialist aircraft surpass it in one respect or another, but it's probably the best multi-role fighter in service at the moment.
1
That's debatable. There are some highly successful specialist weapons, but a good number of modern weapon systems are designed to be jack of all trades. As expensive as the F-35 is, it would be even more expensive to develop 3 or more different dedicated aircraft for reconnaissance, strike and fighter roles, along with their naval equivalents. Better to have one machine capable of doing all of these "good enough". As much as armchair historians like to dream about ultimate superweapons, more often than not, "good enough" in large enough numbers for a cheap enough cost is what wins wars.
1
I've never stopped using it. I must say it at least once a day.

1
I don't care about these people at all.
1
Yeah, that's modern military aircraft. It's an extremely sophisticated weapon, and is the best in the world. But we pay for that with high development and operational costs. Also, while the F-35's development has been troubled, it's actually not much worse than other complex weapon systems from history. Even the excellent M1 Abrams was criticized by the media as a boondoggle until it got its chance to prove itself in combat.
1
The Tiger was actually a pretty good tank. It was designed as a heavy breakthrough vehicle, and evolved into an effective tank killer. It was never designed to replace the cheaper and more numerous Pz IIIs and Pz IVs, because it had a different role altogether. Saying that the F-35 is a failure because it isn't as fast as the F-16 or durable as an A-10 is like saying that the Ticonderoga class cruiser is a bad ship because it can't carry as many aircraft as a fleet carrier. It's a different vehicle for a different purpose altogether.
1
YouTube is censoring any comment I make regarding the topics of this video. Even very mundane phrases get censored.
1
The F-35 promised to be a magic super weapon and when it turned out to be a highly effective jack of all trades, every armchair general complained about it being a failure, and a waste of money. The Tempest is sure to be a decent plane if the development is allowed to continue, but we're already hearing complaints about delays and cost overruns with the Tempest.

1
The Harrier is a beautiful plane, but it's obsolete. It needs a replacement, and the F-35 is actually much more capable than the armchair generals would have you believe. Yes, it's expensive, but it is versatile, modern, and is simply the best VTOL multirole fighter in the world at the moment.
