  1. It's a travesty that you forgot to mention the fact that US government policy created the circumstances for this to happen in the first place. It promised to cover any losses suffered by banks when those banks lent out money to perspective home buyers and the buyers defaulted. This crash was facilitated by bad government policy, and is a perfect example of why interfering with the free market is a bad idea.
