While I was originally skeptical of the limited number of defensive weapons carried by the new class of carrier, you need to keep in mind that not only will this ship likely be escorted by a significant fleet, but it will also soon be augmented by advanced weaponry such as lasers and railguns once these weapons are finally ready for deployment. Also, if these carriers are built as durable as I suspect they are, it's quite likely that they could survive a couple of hits from anti ship missiles.
