  1. the saddest part of this disaster is that nuclear power is no longer seen as a valid option by most people due to the risk it poses. despite nuclear power technically being much less harmful and safer overall than fossil fuels, it will never be aloud to grow to it's full potential due to the perceived danger being much larger than the real danger. this hurts us in many more ways than we realize. it prevents us from moving away from fossil fuels and saving the environment long term damage. it halts nuclear research that could (and indeed already has) found new, safer and much more efficient forms of nuclear power. perhaps least relevant to the modern day yet most important to the long term survival of humanity and intelligent life is that without nuclear powered space craft such as the orion style nuclear pulse drive, we will be confined to our own planet. the only intelligent life that we know for sure exists in the universe could be wiped out in a freak accident because we're too afraid to utilize the greatest power we have ever known to save ourselves rather than destroy.
