He's a politician. Liberal, conservative, or anything in between, I wouldn't trust any of them to not stab us in the back for profit if they think they can get away with it. If they are on your side, it is because they have something to gain from being on your side. Politicians are not your friend, and never will be.

@johni0018 Blame the system if you like. Give a person power and tell them they have to sacrifice their ideals to keep that power, and they will. Even a well meaning person can become crooked if they are threatened with losing the only thing that lets them make a difference. But they never really could make a difference, because in order to make a decision that would matter, they would have to displease those who gave them the power in the first place. Being a good politician is not compatible with having rigid morals.

@johni0018 Having ideals means there are things you aren't willing to do. A good politician does anything to stay in power. Their morals are based not on what the believe to be right or wrong, but rather, what will keep them in power. A democrat believes in abortion because it wins the votes, not because they care about the rights of women. A republican is against abortion not because they care about the lives of babies, but because they want to appeal to those who do care about them. The same is true of immigration, gun control, and every other issue you can imagine. A politician's own ideals are almost never a factor in their decisions, but rather, they pander to the public for votes, and to the wealthy for funding.
