  1. The quietest gun I ever shot was a .22 LR single shot Stevans rifle. It was actually slightly quieter than my high velocity airgun, and completely comfortable to shoot without hearing protection. It's worth mentioning, not all guns chambered in .22 LR are so quiet. Revolvers or semi-automatic rifles would be louder, and potentially dangerous to shoot without hearing protection. Hearing loss sucks and is often permanent, so better to be cautious.
