  1. 900 tons is a little on the small side, but not unusual for a WWI era destroyer. Post WWI, most destroyers were above 1000 tons, and by WWII, with some designs approaching 2500 tons. The Fletcher class for example, was about 2100 tons.

  2.  @shermanfirefly5410  Most destroyers had virtually no armor. US sailors refered to their destroyers as 'tin cans' because of this. Only a few 'Destroter Leaders' (basically fast light cruisers designed to lead destroyer flotillas) had any semblance of armor.
