  1.  Loyal Royalty  Both are good, reliable guns. The 1911 is more rugged, and had more stopping power, and personally I think it's a better gun to shoot. Glocks are quite rugged in their own right, and most models have a much higher magazine capacity. This is important for police weapons, but I think the trigger pull is atrocious, and the handling is overall worse. To distinguish reliability from ruggedness, it's the difference between feeding and firing with few jams under ideal circumstances, and the ability to take abuse and still function well. Glocks are reasonably rugged, but noting beats a 1911 in that regard.
