@JackDSquat I'd view it as something adults can speak of in an honest way. I'd argue the open celebration of kinks is more a product of their remaining tabooness. It's done because it's transgressive enough to make heads turn, but not so taboo as to have real consequences. And I really don't see how this would lead into polyamory or pedophilia because 1. Polyamorous relationships mostly don't work - "favourites" inevitably form and they'd either split into different couples or fall apart due to jealousy and conflict. and 2. There's a world of difference between two consenting adults and children who cannot give informed consent.

@RyuuOujiXS That's not really fair. You're asking someone to end their own life, which runs against basically every primal instinct we have. I personally would hate being a burden enough to consider going through with it, but I don't hold it against those who don't.

That's one of the things I really don't like about Christianity tbh. You shouldn't be forced to give up love just because you made a poor choice in your youth and got with someone you aren't able to spend the rest of your life with. If that was the case, you should be marrying as late as possible, well out of your "young and dumb" phase, but sex outside marriage is a sin, so you'd have to wait until your mid-late 20s at least to have sex, a good part of which you're bombarded by hormones screaming at you to have sex. Also depending on how you interpret the Bible, you can't even masturbate in that time. It's a completely unrealistic standard to hold people to.

@buckplug2423 I think it’s more that it’s easier now to pick through the chaff to find the bangers. Everyone says that older music is always better but I disagree, you’ll find a lot of crap in any generation, it’s just that the best music tends to rise to the surface over time.

@louisinese I'll tell you something I wish I internalised at your age - do not underestimate the power of networking. You'd be amazed at how far people skills and knowing a guy who knows a guy can get you even with no formal training. I've had far more job opportunities come up in casual conversations with people than I ever did sending out resumes. It sucks and it's unfair, but the job market is utterly broken and the powers that be have few if any plans to fix it, so there is no shame in using nepotism to bypass this broken system we've been left with, better you (someone who probably cares about doing a good job) than someone less competent.

@HelixWek I don't pretend to understand the economics, but I'm generally skeptical of economic doomsday predictions, i've seen way too many go wrong not to be. I still think some very hard times are ahead, but the shape of the nightmare to come probably won't be quite so dramatic as althist proposes

@augustblock3981 Yes, young people do respond well to being treated like adults. But I've seen far too many times where young people, myself included, insisted on only learning their lesson the hard way. Expecting them to not make any mistakes during the most hormonal and emotionally fraught years of their lives is delusional. Not to mention that outside of avoiding toxic relationships, the only person who can really decide who is a good match for them is themselves.

@JD-jl4yy You know, it’s funny. I had a stomach flu about a month ago. Those are pretty miserable - 1-2 days straight of vomiting and crapping your guts out into a toilet. And I remember as I was scream-vomiting into that toilet at 4 in the morning, completely alone with nobody to help or even comfort me, I kept thinking nearly any mundane moment in my life was pure bliss compared to right now. It made me appreciate not being in horrible pain, barely able to breathe between gag reflexes and being dehydrated, not knowing when I’d be able to keep down a full glass of water next. Being in good health seemed like a blessing at that moment. And you know what? I barely remember the pain of that night at all. I’ve mostly gone back to taking my health for granted, even if I try not to. It’d probably be different if I went through something truly traumatic, but it’s just funny how quickly the human brain adjusts its expectations.
