Honestly, I think prepping itself is smart but some seem to let it take over their lives. Prepping should be for your life, your life shouldn't be for prepping.

@sparky4747 Would operating & maintaining ham radio count? It may not be conventionally "low" tech, but it's a fairly robust and resilient standard, and would be of good use should communication infrastructure break down. I'm quite interested in that field so that'd be a convenient post-collapse skill for me to learn.

@MaulqasmPK Local elections count much more than you realise. If the feds can't or won't be there for you, your local reps will be.

I'd rather stick around for a while, and if it becomes apparent I'm going to starve or otherwise die violently I end my life in a dignified fashion

@millville If you dive into it, it probably is, but "prepping" can be as little as buying an extra can of food every week. It'll start to add up after a while.

I've always wondered - couldn't you just take food that's close to expiry out and eat it - replacing it with a fresh can?
