  2. I feel like I’m the only person who just doesn’t like this book. I’ve tried to read it multiple times over the years, usually after the emphatic praise of friend, and I usually give up after a couple of chapters. I’ve watched the whole miniseries a couple of times and while I can tolerate it the whole way through, that’s the most I get out of it. And I don’t think it’s that I do not understand the story, I understand it well enough, I just don’t care. In fact, the first time I read it was in high school as a book assignment, I got so fed up with it that I literally refused to read the rest and used sparknotes to complete the essay and test. The next book assignment, Brave New World, I read the whole way through twice by the time the class even got to the end.
