  1. In the mild defense of companies, there’s likely a corporate equivalent of peer pressure at play here. They can’t truly stick their neck out for these movements because that could seriously damage their bottom line, but staying silent when all the other brands are making platitudes could have the unfortunate implication that they are apathetic or against the cause, so they kind of have to make the platitude to protect their PR. Rock and a hard place.
