I'm reading a very interesting book at the moment: "Broken Vows. Tony Blair and the Tragedy of Power" by Tom Bower. I heartily recommend it. These kinds of bogus asylum seekers, student visa scams, sham marriages, "Human Rights" Lawyers "gaming the system" were ALL happening even before Blair. Michael Howard (the last Tory Home Secretary before Blair) introduced a bill in 1996 to deny benefits to unsuccessful asylum seekers, and to automatically deny asylum to those from "white list" countries. The numbers began to fall. When Blair came to power, he and Jack Straw arbitrarily decreed Howard's bill as "racist" and scrapped it, leading to the mess we're in today.

OldEnglish Ale Doesn't he just? The real disgrace is that he's still at it. He's still attempting to influence governmental policy across the world, and setting up dodgy "business deals" (many of which involve arms trading), through the front of his "charities" and "foundations". Seriously, read the book...it's a real eye-opener...

@davehallett810 I'll give it a go sometime.

@vinparaffin6082 I don't think there's very much that's "Tory" about the current government, to be honest...They're just a Blairite continuation party. As the great Doctor David Starkey put it: "we've changed governing party since 1997, but we haven't changed government policy ."

@kevinbrown5737 I agree, but I'm not sure we'd even have heard of sTURDgeon and Abacus if Tony "Definitely not a war criminal" Blair hadn't happened.

It's not just the PM. The whole system is f*ked. It was designed at a time when the UK expected to receive a handful of *genuine asylum seekers every year. Now, we have slick "Human Rights" lawyers, financed by "woke" organisations which call themselves "charities", who know exactly how to "play the system" to their own advantage. It's a cash-cow for the lawyers, and a means of effecting social change for the political left. The only time it will stop is when Britain is so overrun by third world immigrants that our economy totally collapses, and we're no longer an attractive "honey pot".
