It wasn't the judge, it was the jury that was at fault...I think they knew full well that if they didn't deliver the "right" result, they'd face the full wrath of social media (same as the whole George Floyd farce in the US)...the whole thing stinks badly and makes a mockery of the idea of "British Justice".

That's the beauty of being a self-righteous, entitled, lefty SJW...you don't need to bother about other people's opinions, because you know you're incapable of error...

@edjennings4792 I agree, but from what I read in the paper the judge virtually insisted that the jury found them guilty (insofar as he was legally able). I was expecting them all to get a stiff custodial sentence, as an example to other would-be "pound shop anarchists". It was a real shock when they were acquitted. I hope the case gets taken to the Court of Appeal and the right verdict and sentence are handed out.

@jamescaley9942 Yes, it's an appalling miscarriage of justice...the question was "has criminal damage occurred?" (which clearly it had) not "was Colston a bad guy?" Someone managed to subvert proceedings, however...It's is an extremely worrying time for the justice system when this kind of thing is allowed to happen, and this whole issue should be much bigger news than it actually is.

@edjennings4792 Yes, I've been a jury foreman too. The case I was involved in was actually left to the discretion of the jury by the judge. The antics of the jury left a very bitter taste in my mouth regarding "justice", however. The prejudice and inability to reason objectively or follow a logical argument were just staggering. It made a strong case (in my view) for having professional juries.

@edjennings4792 Well like I said, my personal experience of juries was not a happy one...the inability to distinguish between "fact" and "feeling" was truly shocking, which lead me to the conclusion (at the risk of sounding rather snooty) that most of the general public are simply too stupid to serve on juries. Most appear to be incapable of grasping "reasoned argument". The whole system's fucked, without putting too fine a point on it. The jury in this "Colston" case has clearly been "got at"...I suspect it's the fear of "trial by Twitter" (and subsequent "life-ruination") that's made them arrive at the verdict they reached. This is the pattern for the future. I think yesterday is the day when "authority" in Britain was officially handed over from the government and the judiciary to the Influencers of Social Media.

Shaun Halliwell Yep. 2022 has not got off to a good start...

How the blithering fuck can these god-awful, "entitled" children be acquitted of criminal damage..?!? There's literally footage of them committing the crime...!!! Clearly the jury has been "got at"...they've been intimidated into arriving at a not-guilty verdict by the all-pervasive threat of "doxxing", "cancellation" and "life-ruination" from the Despots of Social Media. Who the fuck is running this country? It sure as hell doesn't seem to be the elected representatives of the people, or their appointed agents...
