You can tell there's something fundamentally rotten at the core of British higher education by the fact that the institutions have to compete to attract the students ...it always used to be the case that potential students had to compete with each other to win one of the limited number of places at a university. This current arrangement really indicates just how pointless a lot of degrees (and indeed "Higher Education Establishments") actually are.

  5. It was Bliar's way of reducing the dole queues to "prove" that his policies were working. He know that the obvious decline in educational standards that would result wouldn't become apparent until many years after he was "off the scene".
