Once-upon-a-time, the point of Sociology departments in universities was to teach and research the (pseudo-) science of sociology. At some point, however, these places became infiltrated by the political left and they began to realise that they had the ability to influence government policy. I'm convinced that they now see their primary purpose as actively setting and insisting upon the "social agenda". I think most of the general public would be horrified if they knew that crackpot ideas such as "women can have penises", "diversity is our greatest strength", "there are as many genders as there are human beings", "white privilege", "institutional racism" and so on were being dreamt up and promulgated by what are supposed to be respectable, non-partisan publicly funded bodies. Excessively verbose and impenetrable language is therefore needed to prevent the public from discovering that supposedly "academic institutions" are in fact creators of deliberately socially divisive agendas that further their own self-interest and to prevent the "wrong" kind of people from having a slice of what the "progressive" Left see as their exclusive cake. The insistence on school children having to use convoluted language is not simply a reflection of how essentially pointless the British education system has become in recent years. It's quite deliberate, and part of the indoctrination process into exclusionary Left-Wing politics that schools are party to.

I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that most people's lives and jobs in contemporary Britain are so essentially pointless that they actually have to invent complications (such as absurdly nebulous and jargon-laden "business speak" and "academia speak") just so they can have the challenge of deciphering it in order to give themselves "meaning" and "relevance".
